I’ve been carrying this story for a while. Not because it’s extraordinary — but because it’s real. I found out I was pregnant at 19, in my first semester of law school. Four years later, I’m now a solo mum, I’ve graduated with a law degree, and I work for the government. This blog is my space to reflect, share, and speak honestly about the journey that brought me here.
When I found out I was pregnant, people assumed that was the end of my law degree. But I kept going. I studied full time. I worked full time. I raised my son. I lost sleep, I lost friends, I lost my relationship, I nearly lost myself a few times too. But I made it.
Legally Mum is for anyone who’s ever been underestimated. I’ll write about life as a solo mum, what I wish I knew during uni, working in government, and navigating identity, ambition, and parenting in Aotearoa. I’ll also talk about law — not just the courtroom kind, but the laws that shape our lives, our stories, and our stereotypes
If you’ve ever felt like the odds were stacked against you — welcome. I’m glad you’re here. This is Legally Mum.
